Beaufort Way, the new multi-million-pound 1.8km single-carriageway link road, running from the A47 (formerly A12) northwestwards through Beacon Park and farmland, to connect to the A143 Beccles Road at Bradwell, opened in June 2015.
The estimated £6.7m road was delivered by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, in partnership with Norfolk County Council, using £4.7m of Government “Local Pinch Point” funding with the remainder of the cost met by the borough council and housing developer Persimmon Homes. The construction was led by main contractor Lafarge Tarmac.
In addition to cutting congestion on local roads, the A47/A143 link has opened up farmland immediately either side to the north and south to be developed with 850 homes, a school, shops and business space. Outline planning permission for the whole development, plus detailed permission for the first phase of around 150 homes, has been granted.
And the additional connection will further support the local economy by speeding up traffic flows across the south of the borough and directly link the A143 to Beacon Park.
