Beaufort Way, the new multi-million-pound 1.8km single-carriageway link road, running from the A47 north-westwards through Beacon Park, to connect to the A143 Beccles Road at Bradwell, opened in June 2015. The £6.7m road was delivered by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, in partnership with Norfolk County Council, using £4.7m of Government “Local Pinch Point” funding with the remainder of the cost met by the borough council and housing developer Persimmon Homes. The construction was led by main contractor Lafarge Tarmac.
In addition to cutting congestion on local roads, the A47/A143 link has opened up farmland to be developed with 850 homes, a school, shops and business space. Outline planning permission for the whole development, plus detailed permission for the first phase of around 150 homes, has been granted.
